Circular 3D printing of urban furniture using slag and construction
waste as sustainable concrete alternatives.
The project
RECONCRETE is an EU funded project under Horizon Europe’s CIRCULOOS programme.
It aims to create a circular value chain for manufacturing 3D printed urban furniture using Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slag and construction waste as substitutes for traditional cement.
This approach reduces CO2 emissions, promotes material circularity, and enables design flexibility for sustainable urban infrastructure.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101092295.
Main Objectives
Develop and validate a slag-based concrete-like material for 3D printing.
Manufacture customizable urban furniture prototypes using advanced additive manufacturing.
Assess environmental, economic, and social impacts through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Create a business model and market strategy for scale-up.

Why it matters
We 3D print urban furniture using
circular, low-carbon concrete
alternatives made from industrial waste
Environmental Impact
- Up to 50% CO2 reduction compared to traditional concrete
- 4 tons of slag repurposed
Economic Impact
- 15–25% cost savings per urban furniture unit
- New revenue streams for waste suppliers
Social Impact
- More sustainable, circular public spaces furniture unit
- Increased awareness of sustainability and circular economy
